Spark of Joy — Taking Time for Self-Care

Attainable luxuries - aka those little moments that are like a special treat just for you… What are those for you right now? I know the stressors of the global pandemic, kids going back to school, keeping up with adulting and all of the anxieties that come with it, can really take a toll. With August being dedicated to national wellness, 2020 has proven to be the season to check-in and think about your self-care, ways to manage your stress and allow for healthy routines. Working out at least 4 days a week was always part of my routine pre-pandemic, and for months has become a daily thing after recognizing I needed more movement. Yet, I was noticing other self-care indulgences that were once plugged into my regular schedule falling short on the priority list, leaving me wanting to find ways to add them back in to create a little spark of joy…for ME!

Time For you

Attainable luxuries might not be a distant memory after all

This left me wondering, am I the only one craving more self-care? After reaching out to some of my closest friends, they all assured me that they were, in fact, on board the little indulgence train too! I was pleasantly surprised and inspired by their responses. I thought it would be fun to share some of the ways they were incorporating small moments of self-care and wellness into their routines.

“Subscribing to Front Porch Pickings farm box delivery service brings so much weekly joy when I receive their deliveries on Wednesday’s. It’s such a treat. I was never able to do it before since I traveled so much for work and was always gone.”

“Finding an at-home nail service to keep up with my nail care and taking advantage of my beautiful backyard oasis has allowed me to swim more.”

“Making Espresso topped with whip cream and a pinch of cinnamon and then hiding from the kids to enjoy some peace and quiet while lighting one of my favorite candles to change the vibe of my surroundings. My favorite candles are from The Kew Shop of the Royal Botanic Gardens in London. Every purchase supports their charitable organization and science-based programs. All of their candles are made with 100% natural plant wax with oils from their plants. Another favorite is the Cardamom & Vetiver candle from Joanna Gaines Hearth & Hand collection at Target. Joanna knows how to make a good candle! ”

“Taking advantage during this time of less business activity to slow down, focus on wellness and build in more downtime—which is free!”

“Vino of course! Whispering Angel - the best-selling label from Caves d’Esclans is a fav right now and trying clean and vegan wine brands like Avaline, a new wine brand that just was released from the talented Cameron Diaz and Katherine Power.”

Personally, I have also been organizing a lot, especially family recipes since I love to cook and bake. I have been digging into new and older recipes every week, which has been so fun and therapeutic! Facials were my vice pre-pandemic, so I started “Spa Sunday’s” to keep up with my skin pampering. Whether it’s a mask or peel, it’s the perfect way to end the weekend and start a new week with my skin feeling refreshed. I have been using Kaffee’s Garden Spa Aloe Hydrating Fluid and Mirigal High Voltage Oil for years for an added moisture boost. Both products are made with natural ingredients that restore, nourish and regenerate. You can find them both at Kaffe’s Garden online store.

Whatever your vice, remember to keep giving back to you!
